Hotel Steigenberger Berlin: Convenience Meets Accessibility by the Bahnhof

At the beginning of August, I stayed at the Steigenberger Hotel Berlin, a modern and relaxed property located right next to the Bahnhof (train station). The location makes it convenient for travelers arriving by train, with plenty of restaurants and cafés nearby. The surrounding district has a business-like feel, but also offers easy connections to other parts of the city.

If you prefer to be closer to the museum quarter and the classic tourist sights, hotels such as the Courtyard City Center are better located. But if accessibility, convenience, and a calmer atmosphere are important, the Steigenberger is a solid option.
First Impressions
The hotel offers self check-in kiosks as well as a traditional reception. The lobby is spacious, with a modern lounge feel, and there’s a restaurant and bar on the ground floor. On the first floor, you’ll find the breakfast area and a business center, both easily accessible by elevator. The general ambience is professional yet warm, and everything is kept clean and tidy.
The Accessible Room
I stayed in an accessible room on the 6th floor, which was thoughtfully equipped, although there were some challenges.
Room layout: Spacious enough for a wheelchair, with good lighting and accessible switches.
Carpet: The entire floor is carpeted, which makes pushing a manual wheelchair tiring, especially since the room was located on the opposite side of the elevator, down several long hallways. It felt like quite a workout just to reach the room.
Bed: Good height for transfers, comfortable mattress.
Closet and desk: Practical height, easy to use.
Bathroom:
Roll-in shower with a fold-down shower chair attached to the wall.
Accessible sink and toilet with grab rail.
Layout was spacious enough for maneuvering.
Overall, the bathroom was well-designed and fully functional, a strong point of the stay.
Wellness Facilities
On the top floor, the hotel has a gym and a sauna area. The gym is accessible by elevator, but the sauna facilities are only partially accessible: there are steps and narrow shower entrances that make them impractical for wheelchair users. There is no pool at this property.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast area on the first floor is easy to reach by elevator, with plenty of space to move between tables. Breakfast offers a variety of options with fresh, healthy choices, served buffet-style.
Parking & Access
The hotel has an underground parking garage with accessible spots available. Parking costs €34 per day, and from the garage, an elevator takes you directly up to the lobby and your floor. This setup is very convenient and step-free.
Final Thoughts
The Steigenberger Hotel Berlin is a relaxed, professional hotel with reliable accessibility features. The accessible rooms are well-equipped and bathrooms thoughtfully designed, making it a solid choice for travelers with mobility needs.
However, the long hallways with carpet were a real drawback, especially for manual wheelchair users, and the sauna area isn’t fully accessible. The location is excellent if you want to be right by the train station, but if your priority is being in the cultural heart of Berlin, there are more central options.
A good hotel for a short, comfortable stay in Berlin with room for improvement in layout and wellness accessibility.
