Hotel Club Saraceno - Accessible Beach Vibes in Sunny Sardinia

Set against a backdrop of azure sea and rugged Sardinian mountains, Hotel Club Saraceno in Arbatax offers an easy-going beach escape filled with sun, scenery, and the kind of Mediterranean charm that makes a week feel like a real break. While it's a 4 star resort, it has plenty to offer - and for wheelchair users, it strikes a fairly balanced note of accessibility with a few key considerations.
Arrival & First Impressions:
Getting to the hotel by car is straightforward (and recommended), but accessibility begins with a minor challenge: parking is not located directly next to the reception. Instead, there’s a short but uneven walk over cobblestone pathsto check in. It’s manageable with assistance (by golf cart), but definitely something to note for solo travelers or those with limited mobility. That said, once you’ve settled in, the vibe shifts quickly - holiday mode kicks in fast.
The Room: Ground-Floor Ease
Rooms are spread throughout low-rise Mediterranean-style buildings across the property. Accessible rooms are available on the ground floor, making entry smooth, and most paths are flat once you’re past the entrance area.
The rooms are designed modern and comfortably, with everything you need for a beach holiday. Views of the sea and nearby mountains add a lovely sense of place, and the layout is suitable for relaxed, unfussy living.
Inside, the room is simple yet functional, with a layout designed for relaxed beachside living. It includes:
A bed at a good height for transfers
A desk with a mirror at an accessible level
Ample closet space with reachable hangers
A small extra sofa for lounging or storing personal items
A spacious layout overall, which allows decent maneuverability
The bathroom, however, presents a mixed experience. On the plus side, it includes:
A roll-in shower with a small wall-mounted shower chair or option for a decent shower chair upon request
Easy-to-reach water taps and a shampoo shelf
A handle at the toilet
That said, there are areas in need of improvement:
The toilet handle is placed too high and not ergonomically positioned
The shower chair is small and not ideal for safety or comfort
The glass shower door makes entering the shower challenging with a wheelchair
The bathroom itself is quite compact, making certain movements tight
Before booking, I specifically requested photos of the room and bathroom, as they weren’t available online. The images looked promising - but upon arrival, the space felt noticeably smaller, and the shower setup was less accessible than expected. Initially, staff were not very helpful when we requested a different shower chair. But after some persistence, they eventually provided a more suitable one, and I was able to shower safely for the rest of the stay.
Beach, Pool & Play: Holiday Mode Activated
One of the highlights of Hotel Club Saraceno is its direct access to the sandy beach—a major plus. The hotel provides:
A beach ramp for wheelchair access
Dedicated beach loungers
A large pool, surrounded by palm trees and sunbeds
A family-friendly playground and recreation area
Whether you're traveling solo, with friends, or as part of a family trip, the relaxed, joyful energy of the resort is infectious. The pool is not equipped with a lift, but the beach access and general vibe more than make up for it if you're someone who enjoys soaking up sun and nature.

Dining: Abundant Buffet Breakfast
Each morning starts with a buffet breakfast featuring a generous spread of local and international options - plenty of fresh fruits, Italian pastries, eggs, and more. It’s casual and satisfying, perfect for fueling up before a beach day or island adventure.
There’s also a restaurant and bar on-site for evening meals and drinks, although many guests opt to explore the nearby towns for a change of scenery.
Exploring Sardinia: A Car Is Essential
Hotel Club Saraceno’s charm lies in its surroundings - small villages, scenic lookouts, and quiet beaches are just a short drive away. To make the most of the island:
A car is essential
Don’t forget your disabled parking permit - it will make navigating Sardinia’s popular spots significantly easier
Nearby towns offer traditional restaurants, local shops, and a more intimate feel of Sardinian life
Sardinia rewards exploration, and this hotel provides a great base for those wanting both relaxation and adventure.
Final Thoughts: Laid-back & Sun-Kissed, With Accessible Highlights
Hotel Club Saraceno is warm, welcoming, and relaxing. Its accessible beach ramp, ground-floor rooms, and family-friendly layout make it a smart pick for wheelchair users looking for an uncomplicated beach vacation.
A week here goes by quickly, especially when paired with the occasional road trip exploring the island. If you’re after sun, sea, and the freedom to take things slow, this might be just the right spot.
